The regatta has an official site, that may not work all year: www.HeinekenRegatta.com

If you want to get out in the action, get aboard Celine or Random Wind.
It's a great day on the water among the the boats, food and drinks included.

These photos were taken from the balcony of our condo at Sapphire Beach Club on Friday as the racers started north past Cupecoy Beach. Normally this is a spinnaker run as the SE trade winds push the boats along. The wind had tracked to the NE, making this a tackfest. Add in the fact that The Cliff, Rainbow Beach Club, and the Bleu Mall have been added to Sapphire Beach Club along this coast and the poor captains had a tough time figuring the wind. There were a lot of luffed sails and coming about seemed a bit more difficult than usual. Random Wind came by on a special trip following the regatta. We came aboard on Saturday for some even closer shots of the action.

Friday off Cupecoy

Friday off Cupecoy

The round the island race on Friday showed that the NE wind made the Anguilla channel quite choppy and very difficult. It only got worse overnight. Saturday's race was supposed to run from Simpson Bay to Marigot, but nobody wanted to fight that wind again only to moor in the relatively unprotected Marigot harbor, so the race went out in that direction and ended in Simpson Bay. We went out on Random Wind and caught some of the start, had lunch in Lay Bay, followed the racers around the airport and out to Bay Long (where nobody even got in the water as temperatures were in the mid 70s with a 20 knot breeze!), and headed back to Simpson Bay. It was great fun with good food and lots of Heineken and sunshine.
